Navarre CERT will participate in a Joint Training exercise with members from the Crestview, Pace, and Escambia CERT teams.  The initial planning meeting was held on September 14, with the exercise taking place on November 1 with a backup date of November 15.  This will be a coordinated full-blown simulated event with all four area CERT teams involved.  (Remember what happened September 16, 2004?)
This is a great opportunity for all to put your training to good use.

More information will be posted here as it becomes available.

Next CERT Training Class

Many have inquired, so we are happy to announce that we have firm dates.  The next CERT Training class will be held on October 3-5, and 10-12

Classes will take place at the Holley Navarre Main Fire Station, 8618 Esplanade St.  Further information will be provided before the class starts to those who are preregistered. Adults, and teens 14 years and older, are encouraged to take advantage of this free training that will certify participants as CERT members and allow them to join current teams or form new teams in their own community. CERT is an official emergency preparedness program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Participants are required to attend all six classes to successfully complete the course.  Prior to the start of training, participants must take the FEMA Independent Study course IS-317: Introduction to Community Emergency Response Teams.  This can be done online (free of charge) at www.citizencorps.gov/cert/training_mat.shtm.  For further details and to register for this next CERT Training class, fill out the application form by clicking on the Training link above, then the "Next Training Class" link.

NIOSH Website

In recognition of September’s Emergency Preparedness Month, we would like to introduce the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) new Emergency Preparedness and Response Directory web page. The Emergency Preparedness and Response Office is part of the NIOSH Office of the Director, headquartered in Washington, DC.

The Emergency Preparedness and Response Office offers the following:

  • Assistance on the selection and use of personal protective equipment
  • Review and clearance for guidance documents and communication materials
  • Coordination with other agencies and volunteer groups on occupational safety and health matters
  • Responses to questions from businesses on how to protect their employees
  • Healthcare facility design and engineering support for treatment facilities in Africa

The NIOSH Emergency Preparedness and Response Directory web page provides improved access to NIOSH topics and publications about responder safety and health, natural disasters and hazards, and NIOSH disaster response efforts as well as links to related NIOSH programs. Visit the Emergency Preparedness and Response web page and be better prepared!
