About Us

What is CERT?

CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team.  It educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency situations where citizens initially will be on their own for a period of time and where their actions CAN make a difference.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace immediately following an event before first responders can arrive on scene. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects within their community.

Who Is Navarre CERT?

Navarre CERT is a group of volunteers dedicated to preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation of disasters, especially hurricanes, in Navarre and the surrounding South Santa Rosa County Area.  Our members have differing degrees of experience and training in several areas of emergency response.  They include people like retired firefighters and paramedics to homemakers to "desk jockeys", male and female, young and old.
Navarre CERT members assist the community in various ways using their training in order to be prepared to help their families, neighbors and community in case of a disaster.  Some volunteer to distribute disaster preparedness information.  Others volunteer to assist in various ways at community events, such as Navarre FunFest.  Many of our members have received training in running a Volunteer Reception Center, which the County may open locally after a major disaster.

Is there a cost?

There are no fees involved to be a member of Navarre CERT. . .only your time and a desire to help your community.  We are a not-for-profit corporation, incorporated in the State of Florida, and have been granted tax-exempt status by the IRS under section 501(c)(3).
We have monthly meetings on the last Wednesday of every month (except for November and December).  Each meeting is from 6:00 p.m. through no later than 8:00 p.m. at the Holley-Navarre Senior Association Center.  It is located at 8476 Gordon Goodin Lane, across the street from the Navarre Library.
